Empowering Others and Fostering Compassion

This week in our reading series we have been reading stories about others that have had compassion and have found ways to reach out and fill a need in communities or across the world. We have shared some AMAZING conversations and I've been so impressed with the heart of these kiddos. Today we watched the following video in class and the kids were very moved and wanted to share it with families. SO by request I've posted it here for your viewing pleasure.
I hope it sparks some amazing conversations in your home too.

Let'er Buck Memories

Cain Smith, Alex Simonton, and Ahnna Pederson came to visit and teach us about some of the events at the Pendleton Round-Up. The Hall of Fame was really cool because they showed old western movies and told us true stories. It was also fun and they let us look there and we got a guide.

Whitman Mission!!!

We had an AMAZING experience at Whitman Mission today and it really brought our Stout-Hearted Seven story and Oregon Trail unit to life. The Mission gift shop was not fully stocked for the summer visiting season yet and was out of the Stout-Hearted Seven books. I have had a number of students ask for them and will be looking into placing an order and will send home a note with pricing and order information if your family would like to purchase one for your family library. I will be posting pictures of our trip this evening (after the Echo Storm Youth Track meet :o)

Happy Birthday/Statehood Oregon and Happy Valentine's Day!!!

We had a great day in 4th grade today! We watched some Kid President videos about ways to make the world more AWESOME and spread some LOVE. Ask your child about their BIG plans :o)
Our Happy Birthday Oregon/Valentine Party was fabulous. We sang Happy Birthday to Oregon, whose birthday (Statehood) was February 14, 1859. We tasted some of the great foods that Oregon has to offer, such as: Oregon's State Nut- Hazelnuts, Oregon's State Beverage- Milk, Oregon's State Fruit- Pears, Oregon grown blueberries, and Oregon made Rice Cheese. We had an amazing cake made by Taylor and her mom.

Hello 4th Grade Class of 2013-2014

Wow! It's hard to believe we have already completed our first week together. This has been a busy week in Fourth Grade. We got all of our supplies organized, completed our first couple writing projects, dealt with technology issues but still managed to finish most of our beginning of the year math and reading assessments, as well as just settling in.
This class has done a fabulous job being responsible about getting notes and agendas home, signed, and returned. I am so proud of them! Today they also brought home water bottles to be washed over the weekend.
Next week we will be celebrating our August birthdays on Thursday the 29th. We are very excited! Hope you all have a very restful weekend. See you Monday.
